Hey guys, I just picked up my first #1 in .270 from Gunbroker and it was built in 1979. The receiver and lever have an even plum shade to the blueing. I like the look but just wondering if this plum coloring makes the rifle more or less desirable in the marketplace.

Some older models did have his plum colorization. Only more or less desirable based on an individual's personal opinions on it. Single actions had it as well.

Welcome to the forum. I have a M77 that has gone "plum" as well.

You have just bought a poor excuse for a rifle in a useless cartridge.* I suggest you immediately ship it to me. I will gladly pay shipping to get it off your hands.

* Well, that's what Elmer Keith would have said, though Jack O'Connor would have disagreed.:D

Some consider the plum coloring a defect. Others think it's nice and more uncommon so therefore valuable. All in the eye of the beholder. Regardless a #1 in .270 sounds like a nice rifle.
