No specific tips, just take your time, & consult YouTube if you're stuck. There are plenty of instructional videos to be found. Enjoy!

When you swap the extractor do the work with the bolt and your hands in a large freezer bag (or other large clear bag). That way if you slip at the wrong moment and chances are good of it happening, the bag will prevent the spring and/or extractor from flying and getting lost.

If you want to do many mods on your Ruger 10/22 now and in the future check out Welcome to Gunsmither? Tools. I purchased the 10/22 Bolt Bar and 10/22 Safety Tool. They both work great and allow you to take your 10/22 in a safe way. The bolt bar allow you to remove the extractor in a safe way with out need a plastic bag. The spring won't go shooting across the room. The safety tool allows you take part the trigger housing and even remove the safety, also with out the spring flying across the room. They accept paypal and ship fast. I highly recommend their tools if you like to take apart you Ruger 10/22. Also please check Youtube for videos, they are the most helpful.
