Seems pretty obvious to me that this list was compiled using only specific models and didn't account for the fact that each AR manufacturer has a different name for their AR pattern/style rifle.

I believe if you combined the Springfield Saint, Ruger AR556, SIG Tread400 and S&W M&P Sport you would easily jump several spaces, probably to the top. If you include all the AR variants (and the varying model name each manufacturer has) I have little doubt that the AR-15 is still America's favorite rifle.

This is one of the reasons the Mini-14 is my favorite rifle. It's not just a lot of fun to shoot and work on -- yes, I'm one of the weirdos who enjoys taking down and cleaning/tinkering with my firearms almost as much as shooting them -- it's a safe bet.

If you live in a ban state, investing a lot of money into a black rifle feels a lot like the story of the Sword of Damocles. Whatever you do to make it "compliant" and legal, it will forever be hanging over your head that the state will just move the goalposts in five years and make something else about it illegal.

I suppose that could eventually happen with the Mini-14, but for most civilian purposes (range time and maybe home defense, though hopefully not), I think the package the Mini platform offers is rock solid.

My guess is someone like PSA sells more ARs in a year than Ruger does Mini-14s. And who is buying all these Remington 700s? I never see them for sale around here since Wal-Mart quit the gun business in NM.

The AR stuff never appealed to me. I bought my 583 Mini during the Obama admin. Got the ranch rifle, no muzzle accessories, just a plain ol rifle. I love it, it suits my needs. Black rifles get a bad rap, mostly because politicians calling for a ban, don't know the business end of a firearm, from the business end of a broom. Govts need to get guns out of the hands of criminals, & leave law abiding citizens the hell alone.
