The finish is not factory. As for the project idea you dream of, there's other very good gunsmiths that specialize in the Ruger single actions and don't break the bank like Bowen's work does. You certainly won't get the finer details of Bowen's work but if it's to be a working, one to be used, gun, the fancy and flair is wasted.
Certainly not the only one, but I use Gallagher for my work.
