I'm working up loads for the 30 Carb Blackhawk. I'm aware of the H110, AA #9 & WW296 loads, but looking for loads that will work best in the "Pistol" format. Example Unique 4.5g under 110g FMJ. I have pounds of WW231 and I thought I saw a load with it under the Sierra 100g semi-jacket Plinker. Can't find it now. Mostly looking at 100 Plinker & 110 jacketed types; staying away from lead for now. Anyone have experience with this?

Quickload says from a 7.5" barrel using the 110 grain sierra bullet and 4.5 grains of unique you would get 1092 fps velocity, 16,000psi chamber pressure and 100% powder burn. With that same 4.5 grains of W231 powder and the same 110 grain bullet you would get 1095 fps velocity, 18,700 psi chamber pressure and the same 100% powder burn.

Data taken from Speer Manual #14
30 Carbine (pistol)
Speer 100 grain Plinker
Ruger Blackhawk 7 1/2" barrel
Unique powder
Starting charge - 4.5 grains @ 938 fps

Maximum charge - 5.5 grains @ 1142 fps

A buddy had one one in the 1970's and his pet load was 5.2 grains Unique , no chrono back then but we estimated 1000 fps (maybe) accuracy was good .
Looking at the then new 1970 Speer #8 Manual ...that was our latest manual at that time ... they gave a max load in the pistol (Blackhawk 7 1/2" bbl.) of ...don't use this because it's probably way over pressure...7.5 grs Unique !!!
I can't believe we used data from Speer #8 , but we did...I guess our heck for stout built Ruger Blackhawks and Super Blackhawks saved us from what I shudder to think we loaded in our single action revolvers back then .
Thank you Bill Ruger for making them stout !
