Elderly black belt leaves robber with serious injuries.

A burglar was left with serious injuries after he tried to force his way past an 83-year-old black belt home owner in Brisbane last night.

Police are searching for the intruder, a man in his thirties, after he broke into the home of 83-year-old Edwin Dowdy and his wife Jutta, 76, in Kenmore at 8.30pm (AEST).
When the couple realised someone was in their home Mr Dowdy took a knife he kept for security in the lounge room and went to confront the man, The Sunday Mail reports.
Mr Dowdy warned the intruder that he was armed but the man tried to push past him and ran into the blade, suffering a wound to the stomach.
Bleeding heavily, the burglar managed to snatch two of Mrs Dowdy's handbags before running onto the balcony and jumping to the ground.
The Dowdys ran after him and saw him trying to break into a car parked nearby in the street before fleeing on foot.
The robber left a long trail of blood from the Dowdy's balcony and down the street.
Police are calling for people to help find the man saying the amount of blood at the scene "indicated that the man needs urgent medical attention".
Mrs Dowdy is also a black belt in karate.

A knife? Why didn't he just draw on the guy? Oh yeah, Australia.

James, I don't envy all the BS you have to go through to keep your firearms in Australia. Keep fighting the good fight.

Good story as well.

He "ran into the blade"... most excellent. Within the realm of possibilities.

There's the one advantage of using a knife to defend yourself.

If the bad guy has a bullet hole in him, it will be hard to convince the DA that he "ran into the bullet"

AND NOW, ANOTHER......

They make these old guys tough in Australia. ;)

An 84-year-old man on the mid-north NSW coast has used his own brawn to fend off a late-night home invasion by two burly, armed intruders – one of them more than 2m tall.
The intruders broke into the elderly man's bedroom at his Port Macquarie home around 2am on Sunday, police said.
Wearing hoods and armed with a hammer, a pole and a kitchen knife, the pair woke up the elderly man and demanded money, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.
When the 84-year-old tried to get out of bed, they struck him on the arms with the pole.
But it didn't stop him tackling one of the intruders to the floor, breaking the blade off the knife and stabbing him with it.
He then disarmed the other man with the pole and chased both intruders from the house. The pair escaped only with the man's wallet.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for cuts to his head and leg.
An elderly neighbour was quoted by the Herald as saying the victim, whom he had known for more than five years, was "just the type that would stand up for himself against superior odds".
But the neighbour was not aware he had any combat experience or self defence self training.
"He's quite fit ... a man of energy and vigour," the neighbour was quoted as saying, adding that break-ins had become more common in the area.
Police said both intruders were heavily built, wore dark hoodies and concealed their faces. One of the men was about 2.05m tall.
Anyone with information is urged to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
