I have a Model 5846 (Mini-14 with ATI side-folder).

I won't be using the top rail, and would like more ventilation for the barrel. Is there any "easy" way to get this look on the 5846?

Also, along those lines is there a glue and/or filler that will stick to whatever the ATI upper handguard is made of (in case I decide to try to modify the one I have)? I'm proficient with automotive filler (e.g., "Bondo).

The hand guard shown in the OP was sold by the time I tried to buy it, but I found and bought a Federal Ordnance 8-slot and it fits my 5846 (Mini-14 ATI side-folder) fine.

The brass captive nuts show, though, so I'm thinking I'll use some Birchwood-Casey black finish to hide them.
