Boy I have had several of them that would dothat to mine when I lived in the country. They make a shield that will stop them from doing that. If I ever get back to the country I am going set my feed up that way. They are fun to watch, as are the birds.
I get them danged tree rats raiding my birds feeders. Wife likes to watch them. Problem is they chew at the edges of the feeders and tear them up trying to get to the seed. Never had one get on the hummingbird feeder though. We have one scrawny one that comes sit on the kitchen window sill and watches me wash the dishes. Probably making fun of me working while he's outside enjoying himself.
Good picture. They raid my one feeder and then hang down for the lower smaller one and even rake their claws through the suet basket to get at it but never saw one sipping on hummingbird nectar before.
