I'm a large man at 6' 3" and 205 pounds (down over the last 20 months from 317 pounds). For years I've carried my beautiful SP101, 3 inch, in an appendix -in-the-waistband holster of my own design and crafting, but oddly, it now jabs up in under my rib cage and toward my diaphragm. Trying a friend's unloaded 4 inch GP100 with Hogue grips in my waist band, I found it rides quite comfortably. The grips cushion at the outer margin of my rib cageand I can easily grasp the grip for a smooth draw.
Others here maybe carry a medium frame revolver in the appendix-in-the-waistband position? What are your thoughts as you go through the day with what some consider primarily a hunting or range revolver tucked right there in front?
I'm looking locally for a nice, older used 4 inch stainless GP100. But unlike 15 years ago, they aren't nearly as common these days here in Southern Kentucky.
Thanks for your input. Don

No way i could carry a 4" GP AIWB, maybe a 2" revolver but you being a bigger guy maybe you could do it, i can't sit down carrying that way too much poking.

I will carry my GP100 to get under my brothers' skin (long story) when I get back home and put the new sights on. It is the 3" version though and it is a chunk. It fits nicely inside
an OWB holster I bought years ago but I would not try IWB.

I can carry the 3 inch very comfortably all day AIWB but .. I am only 5'9 and I think the 4 inch might start to tickle my sensitive bits.

Just picked up a 4.2 inch so .. I will give it a shot. For a taller guy .. it might not be bad.

My 4" GP100 is in my winter rotation for snowy weather, with my leather OWB and my Carhart jacket, much as we've had here in western Washington this past week. I'm 6'1" and 205 lbs, so I can carry a large revolver under my coat comfortably. I like the reliability of a revolver.

When it is cool, I carry a 2.5" GP100 AIWB. I am pretty thin so it is "comfortable". If things head south, I think you will find that GP100 will also be very "comforting". I like "comforting".

Thanks friends. What I plan is to craft another holster for a 4 inch GP100 (when I find one) like this holster I made for my 3 inch SP101. Regarding the panel behind the grip: actually, and I'm not embarrassed to say, it's because when I lost so much weight I found I have lots of loose abdominal skin that sort of wraps around the grip of my SP101 whether I wear an undershirt or the holster is against my bare stomach . In drawing my little revolver the loose skin interferes with my grasp. Wraps out and around the grip on me. A sweat shield type holster may serve the same function and I stress this is just what works for me.
Using one of my 2 layer laminated leather carry belts, the weight of anything I carry is distributed and held securely for me.
I'm continuing to search for an older 4 inch GP100. Just going to take time I suppose...
Thanks. Don

Actually I make and sell laminated belts mostly, and full flap black powder revolver belt holsters. The CCW holsters I craft are to meet my own requirements, as I could not afford to buy as many factory styles I like to try out. Custom belts are my most popular specialty. Thank you for asking.
