A muzzle brake redirects the gasses outward and upward to help reduce recoil and muzzle rise depending on design. A flash hider like the name says helps to keep the flash to a minimum.

The Muzzle Brake reduces recoil by re-directing the blast & sound back towards you at an angle ... while it does wonders at reducing felt recoil ... you pay a price in noise and blast ... It's Loud !
Flash hiders try to conceal the flash at night when a rifle is fired ... more a Tactical thing than used in the hunting fields .

And Welcome to the forum from Baton Rouge , Louisiana !
