We travelled to Philly for Thanksgiving and drove back today. Ordinarily there is no way I/we would go out shopping.

I went to Cabella's today and found no deals but did buy a pocketed Ruger case for $19. The store had about 30 chairs set out in the gun section for people waiting for approval. Every chair was full and it looked like another 50 people hanging around waiting. I didn't see a single gun either new or used that was a bargain. Most people were paying regular retail.

When I went through the checker line (no line) there were eight checkers and only four were busy ringing up a sale. Most people were like me and only had one or two items. I went into the store with a $1,000 budget to buy anything that was a good deal and only spent $19. Almost all clothing was regular price with only a few summer t-shirts marked down.

But all wasn't lost. About a mile away was a Pull-A-Part Wrecking Yard and I walked around the bone yard for an hour in the rain.:D Then we ate at a buffet at a casino and came home.:)

Did some but all from the comfort of my couch. Eliminated the drive, the parking lot circus and the idiots clamoring for stuff just to save a couple dollars. Nope, won't likely go near any shopping areas for weeks. I'll save my sanity and $ and buy online.

My shopping is done. I bought a shirt and gun case for myself and that is it. A month back I had a picture of my father-in-law framed for my wife. Its an old Navy picture.

Sometimes it happens. I've had threads of a certain subject posted first and then some Johnny come lately posts and gets all the attention. And then sometimes I'm the Johnny come lately. It all will wash in the long run.:)

I went to three small local gun shops and one big box gun store. I can get the same discounted prices every day at the small shops. The big box store gives me a 5% military discount, but not on sale prices.

I am glad I wasn't buying a gun yesterday. Oregon has an instant background check through the State Police. It usually takes me about ten to fifteen minutes to buy a gun and walk out with it.

The big box stores opened at 6:00 am and I was told the State Police didn’t start until 8:00 am. There was a two to three hour wait for approval all day. The queue all day on the computer system was consistently showing over 400 people waiting for approval. They sold a lot of guns yesterday in Oregon, but could have sold more since several people opted out due to the wait.

as a pundit on the radio said yesterday, black friday is no longer about great deals for consumers, it's strictly about getting customers in the stores. very few door buster deals anymore. they still bait the hook, but cheaper bait and not much of it. folks wanting the best price are advised to shop in the day or two before christmas and about a week after.

I'll try again after Christmas.
