Blackhawk Sight Question

2887 Views 23 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  MACHINISTgunner
Well, as most of you know, I bought a NIB BN-36X Blackhawk in .357/9mm and a 6.5" barrel...

Yesterday I sighted it in @ 25 yards using Remington .38 Special 125gr +P. Here's where it ended up... Is it normal to have to run the sight that far right? Or should I be contacing the Ruger folks? By the way, I took my buddy with me today and had him shoot it, just to verify it wasn't me doing something "bone-headed"...

Tain't normal-when you contact the RugerGurus-send 'em that picture--it says it all.
I'll be calling them tomorrow... Which Guru should I ask for, about Blackhawks???
I don't know-never owned one-they mentioned a helpful name recently-within a couple of weeks...I searched repair-last 30 days-it pulled it up-cavediver wrote on great customer service on a P model from JOE at Ruger---give him a shout...
RNettles, I haven't had a blackhawk for years. Knowing you expertise with guns maybe I shouldn't ask you this, but is the main sight body on a dvetail?
No Sir. My Blackhawks have the rear sight pretty much dead-center, regardless of caliber. I've not seen one that required correction to that extent ( assuming that there is no serious vision issue that, uncorrected, might require such a radical adjustment from center)BUT you eliminated that with your friend shooting it...to Ruger with it...I'd bet that they'll be quite interested!

Best of luck...
Here is a perspective of the problem...

I'll be calling them today

RNettles, the pic shows the most likely cause. Either it came from the factory canted that way or occasionally a barrel will loosen up. Definitely need to give Ruger a call. I can remember at least 2 or 3 posts at RF.com from people having the same problem.
I called Ruger today. I'll be FedExing it tomorrow, along with a letter, with the same pictures you guys saw, requesting a new BN-36X. We'll see how good the support is, or isn't... Wish me luck. Rick
Sorry you had problems with your BH. Really unusual for a Blackhawk to have problems out of the box. I guess, sooner or later, we all have some bad luck. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you on the service department. Most reports I've heard have been good.
Tom
Nice picture and to me , it does show that the barrel may have indeed been "over tightened" (crush fit) and it went slightly "beyond" top, dead center. Yes, they should be able to redo that easy enough for them. It "ain't right"..............
Update: I received my BN-36X via UPS TODAY!!! They got it at 11:36 AM on Thursday... I called Friday to verify the status and was told it was being verified bad... I explained the problem to Tammy, a helpful CSR, and also mentioned that I was a moderator on RugerForum.Net where RugerGuy, Rman, Whitedog and Sheepdog spend most of their time... Well!!! Talk about royal treatment! They repaired the barrel and the front sight pronto, test fired it and sent it back Overnight... Thanks guys! I'll be testing it tonight if'n it ain't too dark to see when I get off work at 5...:D
If it is-won't be the first time you've night-hunted---er--shot at night, is it, Arkansas??? Shine a light and blast away!!!

Glad you got it back already! We'll need a report of course. I'd sure like to take some of the credit for your speedy customer service, but it ain't likely Tammy ever heard of or gives a rats about ole Rman. Now mentioning Sheepdog's name probably perked her right up though!
Tom
Thats some sweet service. Kudos to Ruger again :)
Well, this time it was on paper, and that's not the next target either! It still needs sighted in but it's a lot closer now than when I first shot it out of the box... It's about 3" [email protected] instead of 18" [email protected] yards... Should be able to dial it in without much effort... but I ran out of daylight...
That is some real good service on your B.H., makes a person want to stay 100% Ruger
Another reason for the good service could be the star, did you shoe them the star?
Naw... Just dropped a lot of names...
Thumbing can cause that...you sure you're not using too much thumb when you shoot?
