I want to build a lightweight, accurate 10/22.

Please steer me in the right direction to buying the right parts to accomplish this project.

Start with a 10/22 takedown; add in a Magpul Backpacker. Not sure that makes it much lighter, but it does give you a place to store rotary mags when broken down

A normal 18.5 inch standard profile carbine barrel is around 29 oz. Replace with a lightweight aluminum bull barrel in the same length and it is around 19 oz. Go to a 16.5 inch and the weight savings is greater. A carbon fiber barrel will get you down even more. Seems that the only other way to save weight would be in the stock and scope (if used). A fixed power scope is usually lighter than a variable power.

See Whistlepig lightweight barrels at https://www.wpgbc.com/

Magpul Hunter X22 stock is a lighter stock option, has a barrel channel that is reversible for either standard profile or bull barrel, or remove the barrel channel entirely for most weight savings. See at https://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/stock-parts/rifle-stocks/ruger-10-22-hunter-x-22-stock-adjustable-prod79484.aspx Brownells has a sale today at 15% off and free shipping which brings it down to less than Midway's or amazon's price.

I agree with ealge0199, a whistle pig barrel, very light and accurate. I went with a boyds ss evolution stock to save weight also. mine has a hornet trigger and mag release. Though I have never weighed it it is super light and lots of fun to shoot out to 100yards,

There are basic 10/22's on the Ruger website with claimed weights of 4.4lbs. How much lighter do you want?

Stock and barrel where you can shave weight. Knox Axiom light but ugly. I built a light weight 10/22 and found I needed a muzzle break to watch bullet impact with a scope, and watching bullet impact is a lot of the fun shooting .22

Yes, I have the 10/22 Compact that weighs 4.4 pounds. It is very light and comes standard with really nice Fiber Optic sights.

I need a Ruger 10/22 with an empty weight not including magazine and not including sight of no more than 3 pounds, preferably less. I have two standard 10/22s already. I could use one for a build. I need the rifle for home defense.

My 84 year old mother has carpal tunnel syndrome from decades of being a dental hygienist. She can barely pull the trigger of a S&W .38 Special with an action job and lighter pull weight spring kit even using both index fingers simultaneously. She is not recoil sensitive, but has limited arm strength. She has been unable to pull the slide on any semi auto pistol she’s tried. I do not like the Smith .380 or 9mm Luger ezee because when she’s in a hurry she might not fully depress the grip safety. She really needs an arm braced pistol or rifle with buttstock to be able to steady the weapon. When she was in her early seventies she won first place in a summer biathlon for women over 65.
