ST. LOUIS • A man who allegedly tried to retrieve his gun after he was disarmed by his would-be robbery victim and witnesses is now facing several charges.

Lester L. White, 25, of the 5400 block of Robin Avenue in St. Louis, has been charged with attempted robbery, armed criminal action and assault in the incident last month, according to charging documents. He is being held on $500,000 cash only bail.

Police gave this account of what happened:

At 6:35 a.m. Oct. 24, the victim was waiting with others at a bus stop in the 5700 block of West Florissant when White approached the victim from behind and put him in a head lock. White then allegedly placed a gun against the back of the victim. The victim grabbed the firearm and the victim and witnesses then wrestled the gun from White and subdued him. White broke free and fled the scene.

Police said the victim went to a clinic and spoke with a security officer while one of the witnesses gave the firearm to someone at the clinic, who gave it to St. Louis police officers. As the victim was speaking with the security officer, White approached and asked for his gun back and then struck the victim in the head.

White was later arrested.
