I have shot at a concrete block for awhile with 38sp/125grn/ 357mag/140grn mid loads they make there mark, the block is about 8x16 and 3" thick, tonight with my Security Six I carry for bear protect walking my dog, I took a shot at the block, no more block! one shot broke the top part off and second shot broke it in half, I have posted before about this bullet it will penetrate / 180grn Hard cast Heat treated For my 357mag, thats my rhino load, Ron.

I have some of those also, and I also have some 250 grainers in.41 caliber. They’re very accurate in my 6” GP 100 and OMBH .41.

CP bullets are my favorites for 357 Maximum, heavy 45 colt and 44 mag "woods" loads.
They are also very impressive in 45/70 and 444 Marlin.
Because they are hard with a large metplat, they do not need high velocity to do a lot of damage.

Picked up a box of these recently. I'll work up a load for them when I find that round to it.

Their not brittle????
No sir. Just hard. At 1200 to 1800 fps they are very effective on targets with minimal barrel leading.

Correctly heat treating and quenching bullets with the correct alloy leaves them hard and tough .
The heat treating process is done in an oven at a specific temperature for a specific period of time . The hot bullets are removed from the oven and quenched in an even manner . It is best to size bullets before hardening ... they get too hard to size , trust me . This is not simply dropping hot bullets from the freshly opened mould into a bucket of water ... there is more to it but it creates a bullet that doesn't shatter like glass when it hits something solid .

I said before on a post, they are not brittle, cement block, recovered one partly sheared front end ,but it wrecked a cinder block, this post I went and checked the block and it was destroyed, these might cost a little more but so far no leading problem and they penetrate very well, my bear load, mater of fact I might buy more tonight, Ron.

I have the 335 gr and 360 loaded with John Taffin load of 20 gr 4227 and they are thumpers and only for Ruger BH guns. I did put a Hogue rubber grip and makes all the difference in the world.

I have never shot 180grn out of a 38spl, I also have 180grn xtps but thought they might be a bit heavy for that cal, I only use HP-38 for the 38spl, what powder do you use? H-110 for 357 and180 CP and hang on to that gun! Ron.

The heavy bullet was just what I needed to slow down the round in order to get my point of impact to come up with my Vaquero Birdshead 38 SPL / .357 Magnum.
My 38 SPL load is with 4.4 GR of W231 which is the same as HP-38. My .357 load is with 8.3 GR of ACCT #5. Both using the HDY XTP 180 GR bullet

I bought some coated 180 gr SWC last year for working up loads for a NM Blackhawk that I bought last year for deer hunting this year.

I've taken deer with my DW 15-2 using 158 gr XTP and had no trouble killing them with one shoot but I've heard the 180 shoots better in the Blackhawk

Hey they there , why would it be hard on bore it,s lead! I just shot a 6 rounds tonite and cleaned gun and no leading at all, these things shoot very well and will penetrate a rhinos ass 180grn 357mag Cast Perfomance Hard Cast Heat Treaded, End shake ? I don,t get you, I shoot this load with H-110 semi hot- mid range I can tell I pull the trigger even out of my 4" Security Six, it,s like hey lets do that again, so far after a 100rnds no leading, I can,t even imagine if I made a hot load, my hand, I like it though it tells you you have something there, Ron.

4.4grns/ 180grn, I could most likely beat the bullet to target :D , stay safe, Ron.
The nice part about the gas check. It will seal the the bore at medium velocities. You do not have have to load them as barn burners for the bullet to be very effective. I do, but that's another story.

I was just wondering if it was to hard on the gun but I read further and the load's doesn't seem to be to hot . I was just being curious . I haven't shot a hole lot of lead bullets but I'm getting into it a lot these days with the prices and finding materials .

Thanks 👍

Thanks @DaddyO66 ... I know I've been shooting the polymer coated bullets so far and from my findings they shoot great and the clean up is great as well .. I was curious to how far you can push them for a good solid hunting load . My intentions is to go completely away from copper coated bullets ... (y)
