Wekk today was teh first and last day I'll ever leave my back pack with my ccw in it. Cause my truck got broken into and they took my back pack with my work computer and pistol in it. The work computer I could care less about but I'm more concerened is this was the first time I ever left my back pack in my truck and it gets stolen. they left everything else my sunglasses my stereo the thousand of dollars worth of tools in the back seat, they only took my bag in broad day light no less.

So after filing the police reoport and everything if I ever decide to leave my CCW in my truck again I want to leave it in a under the seat safe or something else so they either have to work at it to get it or not get it at all. I know its my fault for putting it in my back pack but I was surprised by the fact that my hoodie was covering that they knew it was in there on the floor boards none the less. So what under the seat safes do you guys recommend? Thanks

Man, that does suck! And I understand your frustration and anger. Problem I see is that you think you're hiding your stuff on the floor boards and covered by some garment. Exactly the thing they're looking for. Crooks are often accused of being pretty stupid, and most are, but what they depend on in many cases is just being a bit smarter than you, when you don't have or didn't take the time to think it through. I do hope you get your piece back, good luck on that, though.

I have the GunVault NanoVault 200. Double bit key lock, heavy cable that you can work around a seat frame. Could also be bolted to the floor if preferred. Movable is nice for use in a hotel room when travelling. You can lock up things besides guns, or both.

Not the greatest, and I wouldn't want to use it parked in a bad neighborhood after dark. It is reasonable security to stop a smash and grab theft. It would take more time to remove or open than most thieves would care to spend.

They make a model 100 that is a little smaller and another with a combination lock.

thanks and usually I would agree with you about covering it up with my hoodie isn't that smart of an idea but I was in a "good" part of the neighborhood and usually there's usually no problems there. But I doubt I'll get my pistol back it was in my EDC bag 5.11 covrt 18 and in the CCW pocket. so hopefully they didn't find it until after they emptied the pack and paniced and threw it away, but the fact that they did it in broad day light is what has me concerned is they stole my GPS with my home address programmed into it. In which case I really hope they don't use it to find my house and rob it too. But from where my truck got broken into and where i live is an hour drive so that might be a deterrent let alone if they're stupid and decide to visit while I'm there and enter my house they won't be walking out.

So I either have to commute to and from work without a weapon, or have some kind of safe in the truck. What really troubles me is that anyone who has ever worked there knows that those who carry weapons will be leaving them in their vehicles all day long. I make it a practice to not discuss the fact that I have a concealed weapons permit or that I carry weapons.

Sorry to hear about your recent loss. It is a bad state of affairs when we have to hide things from thieves and other degenerates that will not work for what they want.
BTW! I was a "lupton"ite for 10 years in the 70's and early 80's. Some friends still there, but age is beginning to thin them out.
Hope you can work out a way to control your losses. Mine was a Gunvault with touch pad chained to the seat. Not convenient for smash and grab!

I have one of these under my driver's seat;

It is shallow enough to fit under the seat, doesn't require battaries or a key to open, and you can set the button combo to anything that is easy for you to remember. You don't need light to dial in a combo or to dig a key out of your pocket. You can open it without looking once you practice putting your fingers on the buttons. It is secured to my seat frame with a stout cable and a u-bolt.

Nothing is completely theft proof, but a thug would have to have some stout bolt cutters or a pry bar to open or remove it. It would certainly protect you from the smash and grab situation you probably faced.

Hate that this happened to you. I've been there, and I know it totally sux big time.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. I try never to leave my ccw in a car, but understand there are times that there isn't any choice. Amazon has several reasonably priced small tethered lock boxes and I got a simple one from Stack-On with a combo. The best - probably not, but for those occasions it's nice to have and better than the glove box, console, etc. At least they'd have to break something and have some kind of tool to take it if attached to the seat rail, or other permanent structure.

I use the safes with the cable on them also, they work great...

I also use two of them because of the stupid MA laws, you can't store the ammo in the same container, so I have to remove the mag and chambered round and put it into it's own container...

Those are also good safes for travelers, you can pack them in your bag and than use them in your room...

For years I've used "Center of Mass" car, hotel or where ever safes. It cable locks to many things. You can buy more than one and they'll key it so one key fits them all. Sorry about the gun being stolen. I hate to think about some idiot running around with one of my guns if it got stolen and using it in a crime.

And this is the problem with all of these gun free zones. They encourage theft from your car and puts guns in the hands of criminals. I agree with you about telling my business. My work also forbids weapons in the building, but doesn't specifically say anything about the parking lot. For one, the lot is shared so its not exactly their property, and two, they'd have to search my car to find it there and how the heck would that scenario ever occur? Open up your car for our susprise pistol search, or you're fired??

I have one of these steel boxes with the cable. That is better than a backpack (same thing happened to me, luckily I only had a few bucks in the backpack and dirty gym clothes). However, I don't trust it. A determined thief could have a lock/cable/bolt cutter. I saw a steel casing that fits inside your console permanently and has a lock on top of it, but it was very specific to certain model trucks. This is what I want. A strong box permanently affixed to the car.

I buy the ones with the combo lock, that way there is no keys involved...

I'm not saying this meanly, but that is a question from a free stater...

Us in MA have to deal with a gun hating culture...

We also can not carry into court houses, schools, post office, police station and on and on...

We also have different levels of LTC's and different Police Chiefs...

For us we need to leave our gun in our vehicle now and than, it's just life in the Commywelth of Mass...

Gunvault & Bulldog make a safe with a cable for around $30. A few dollars more a combination lock model. Cabela's, Bass Pro or most any gun store have them.
