Anyone who has made it through graduate school remembers the terror surrounding the dreaded comprehensive examination - if you didn't pass it, you were OUT! Of course, every generation of PhD's tells the incoming graduate students that the "comps" (comprehensive examinations) were MUCH harder in the past. Here are some examples of the "comps" from when I was in graduate school...

Biology:

Create life from non-living materials. Explain your choices and be prepared to defend them.

Theology:

Reconcile the beliefs of all major world religions without contradicting their scripture or doctrine. For extra credit, explain God.

Engineering:

On the table before you are the parts from two different rifles and a set of written instructions, translated from Mandarin by Google Translate. In fifteen minutes, a hungry Bengal tiger will be released into the room. Take whatever actions you think are appropriate.

That's probably why I never went to Graduate school (among other things....) :)

Biology: open packet of dried pumpkin seeds, Plant seeds as per packet directions. In due time sprout springs to life from pumpkin seed . Provide living pumpkin give to defend.

Theology: All religions share the common purpose to provide control over a population through fear of repercussions for forbidden behavior and reward for accepted behavior.
Extra credit: God is a faceless spiritual being or a made idol who sees all and controls all things on earth. His exististance is entirely dependent on the faith of humans that he/she does exist.

Engineering: Since the odds of assembly are slim and there is no mention of tools or ammunition, the parts must be used as defense. Option 1: Locate the door that the tiger will enter from. Take the barrels of the rifle and brace the door to prevent it from opening. Say prayer and hope that it works.
Option 2: Stand behind the henge side of the door while holding the barrel and loose parts. When Tiger enters, throw loose part to opposite side of room from behind door to attract attention of tiger. Run around door using barrel to fend off tiger if necessary pulling door closed behind you. If unsuccessful with either, prepare for lunch!

Interesting approach, but unless you already passed your Theology comps, to whom are you praying?

Option 3 leave the room before the tiger is released and call animal control

Interesting answers, although pumpkin seeds are "living"; you can detect their metabolism by measuring oxygen uptake - it's very slow, but measurable. That's why seeds can't be stored indefinitely and why they last longer when refrigerated.

Unless the two guns were very similar, I think 15 minutes would be sufficient time to assemble one of them.
Assuming, of course, simple bolt-actions, and not along the line of the 1500-piece Chinese puzzle known as an AR-15 . . . . ;)

I had a friend hand me a couple baggies of parts, a barrel / receiver, and stock of a Ruger 10/22. Never had one in my hand before that.
Don't remember how long it took but once I figured a couple parts the rest fell in place.
(but the tiger would have eaten me!)
