When I go to the range, I find myself having so much fun with with the SR22P that I use up a lot of ammo. And the gun gets really dirty.

I clean it every time I shoot it, and cleaning the fixed barrel is a pain in the neck. But I'm kinda worried that pulling the screw out to remove the barrel every time will eventually lead to a loose fitting barrel.

What do you guys do?

No, I strip it and leave the barrel on. I actually did that the last time I cleaned my Mark III too. Yiogo

Just curious, what about cleaning the barrel do you find to be difficult?

No there is no reason to and why risk having a screw that may begin working loose from vibration. Of course you could use lock-tite after removal but why make extra work for yourself.

If you are using a rod for cleaning the barrel pushing it through from the breach end is tight. The rod is just overkill for such a small bore and barrel length. I recommend using long cotton swabs and a couple of patches instead.

Absolutely not. The barrel is only to be removed if being replaced or repaired.

Grab a Bore Snake. It makes cleaning the barrel 10x easier.

+1 on the bore snake. There is no reason to remove the barrel.

Thousands of rounds through mine and I have never taken the barrel off. I don't see a need to do that.

I'm having trouble understanding why cleaning the barrel is a "pain in the neck". No different than cleaning the barrel of any gun...and it's only 3.5" long.

There is no need to remove it. It's plenty easy to get the important areas cleaned without barrel removal.

I have always been taught that you must clean a barrel from the breech end, never from the muzzle. Getting a cleaning rod through from the breech end is truly a pain. And trying to see what's just inside the breech to see if its clean is also kinda iffy. I just like to see the inside get nice and shiny. I once had someone tell me that was a requirement. He made it VERY clear.

I bought a bore snake. Hopefully that will be the answer. I never had one before. They're kinda neat.

I really didn't want to take the barrel off of the gun to clean it. I just wondered if I was just being lazy.

Naw, trust me, you'll love the Bore Snake. I got a rifle length one which is a tad long to get the job done, but I've got my eyes on a 10/22 takedown for my next purchase. It will be doing double duty then.
