Good Morning!!! Beautiful sunshiny day here today. Took my 8yr old Grandson to the Ranch yesterday for some target practice. Going to where we shoot, we saw about 20 deer standing watching us. We watched them through our scopes on our rifles. Heard my grandson's rifle snap, and I ask him what he was doing. He said I had the cross hairs on that big buck, and I though you might have forgot to unload it. Aren't they wonderful!!! :D

That's what these are for

It's just plain bad practice to use your rifle scope for lookin at game unless its detatched from a firearm. This is a practice we drill into everyones head in Hunters Safety/Education. To many bad accidents have happened.

I agree 100% JB, I'm a Hunter Ed Instructor in AZ. We teach the same thing here, the only time you look at something through a scope is when you're ready to pull the trigger. Binoculars and spotting scopes are great for watching wildlife and scenery. Here in AZ unless you have a Champ permit(handicap permit to hunt from a vehicle) you'll be spending some quality time explaining why you're using a rifle to "view" wildlife from a vehicle.

I want to clarify the post I made. On your own property, in Oklahoma, it is not illegal to look through your scope at game. I did not have binoculars with me and wanted him go get a good look at what they looked like close up. I was trying to teach him that you can be in a position where you can easily shoot game, but you've got to have the self control to only do it when it is legal. He got a lecture on not pulling the trigger unless you intend to shoot and I personally feel he learned a good lesson from the experience. I appreciate the concern and as for safety, we all need to do all we can to be safe, and yet accidents happen every day.

No way Rman. I lived in Nothern Indiana for about 10yrs. It's getting down to 30 below 0 up there right now. I know what cold weather is and I don't want to go back to it. I'll stay in the swamp. Have a good day.
