THE CONTEST RULES & TARGETS HAVE NOW BEEN POSTED, AND IT BEGINS ON NOVEMBER 10TH http://rugerforum.net/tavern/62681-fall-shooting-contest-2012-rules-targets.html

Guys and Gals ... The leaves are falling and it's time to get a Fall contest scheduled :D. In an effort to keep things a little simpler then the 10 division Summer contest , we will have a 4 division contest that will include:
1. Rimfire Pistol
2. Centerfire Pistol
3. Rimfire Rifle
4. Centerfire Rifle (it's been suggested to make this division military rifles only)

Please let us know if you're interested in participating and your thoughts on distances, type of target/scoring, scopes and any additional ideas that you think might make for a fun contest. The projected contest dates will be from November 10th through December 16th.

Yes! Count me in for the two pistol categories. I've been practicing so I'm looking forward to it. :) :)

Thanks again Buck, for putting these together.

Sounds good! I like the military rifle idea too. Here is my suggestion... :)

*Rimfire pistol/revolver ~ 10yds & 25yds ~ standing, no rest
*Centerfire pistol/revolver ~ 10yds & 25yds ~ standing, no rest

*Rimfire rifle ~ 25yds ~ standing, no rest
*Rimfire rifle ~ 50yds ~ prone or bench, bi-pod or sandbags ~ iron sights
*Rimfire rifle ~ 50yds ~ prone or bench, bi-pod or sandbags ~ up to 9x magnification

*Centerfire rifle ~ 100yds - prone or bench, bi pod or sandbags ~ up to 9x magnificaion
*Centerfire rifle (Mil surp div.) ~ 50yds ~ prone or bench, bi pod or sandbags ~ iron sights

*All firearms to be in factory form, with the exception of an aftermarket trigger. No Competition guns.

Thanks again Buck for another fun contest! :)

count me in! my only thought would be to have another couple divisions for various scopes, as my scopes prevented me from taking part this past summer (that, and i would have sucked badly enough without them that it wouldn't have been worth the paper). looking forward to it!!!

Sounds good to me!
I think Lead Slanger has the divisions sorted out pretty well too.

No bench as the military never uses a bench that I know of. Prone or kneeling only. No use of anything that is not on the rifle like a sandbag. Use of sling ok.

Hopefully I will be able to participate this time! Last time I was in the ICU recovering from emergency surgery!

Trust me when I say I would have preferred to have been outside shooting!

Lead Slanger has a good list. Not sure about the "no rest" idea for rimfire at 50yds, but I like the iron sight option. I can sling my M1 for CF

I do vote in favor of being able to use aperture or peep sights like in the summer contest.

Looking forward to it.

After re-reading your post Buck and seeing that you would like to keep it a bit simpler with just 4 divisions, how about:

1. Rimfire pistol @ 25 yds
2 Centerfire pistol @25 yds
3 Rimfire rifle @50 yds
4 Centerfire rifle @50 yds (military or service rifle only would be fine with me)

Targets like the ones used in the Summer Contest.

All divisions with iron sights, standing, and no supports.

Irons sights to mean any type of non-optical, non-magnifying, and non-electronic sight.

Yo WvDave, Buck, I'm OK with all of this EXCEPT the minimum distance of 25 yards (75 feet). My range, because of architetical design and County Code Inforcement officials, ended up a maximum distance of 70 feet. Since i am not a cheater I would like to lobby for a 45 ft. (15 yard) distance for the rimfire and centerfire pistol sections. I believe a 45 ft. (15 yards) distance is a fair distance. I'm fine with all the other suggestions in WvDave's postl :)

Our range allows for any distance pistol but I think 15 yards would be a more useful contest.

Guys ... In the interest of having greater participation by the membership and more flexibility for indoor ranges, I agree that the pistol distances should be 15 yards in lieu of 25 yards.

I'll do my best to participate. I haven' renewed my range membership since September because there are several people that feel the owner is about to close the place, and didn't want to put down a year membership cost and loose it. Most of my recent shooting events have been a friends farm and we weren't shooting paper.

That being said, I'll make sure I go to the range atleast once during the contest so I can participate.
