Curiousity would have me ask, why a hammerstrap, i.e. how was retention?

Retention is not good and it's not supposed to be for fast draw. Because these type of holsters are fitted loosely around the cylinder and have an exposed trigger guard it's a good idea to have one. My gun would more than likely slide out of the holster in a seated position without the strap. And that's a $600 accident I don't want to happen.

Because mine is not quick draw, it needs retention.
In Australia, holsters have to have retention (and the trigger guard covered except for SA's).
In matches, if the gun falls out of, or jumps out of the holster you are disqualified.
This one houses my Bisley Vaquero (while it is a fine holster I would love the personal satisfaction of making one myself. Sadly, that will never happen).

The belt is a great addition to the holster.
