Growing up my family always made sure my siblings and I watched certain holiday movies. From old ones to more modern ones some of these movies had life lessons of charity, honesty, hope and love. Since then, I've added a few of my own to my own family.

What holiday movies have you made a part of your family tradition?

I guess mine are:
A Christmas Story
Elf
Its a Wonderful Life
Home Alone
Christmas Carol

A Charlie Brown Christmas, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and Better Off Dead are 3 of my favorites.
Also, even though it's not a movie, I LOVE the "Yule Log"! They tried to take it off the air some years ago and got so many complaints they had to start it up again!

The Shop Around The Corner (Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullavan, 1938)

Two secret penpals love each other, on paper. They don't know they work together in the same store, where they can't stand each other.

It's A Wonderful Life (Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed)

A Christmas Carol (George C. Scott version)

It's not Christmas in my world until I've seen The Christmas Story. Hands down the best Christmas movie that covers generations and is safe for the family.

Then again most Christmas themed movies are pretty safe for the family.

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Frosty the Snowman
A Charlie Brown Christmas
Santa Claus is Coming to Town

As an adult I always watch these:
It's a Wonderful Life
White Christmas

In no particular order:
National Lampoons Christmas
Miracle on 34th Street
It's a Wonderful Life
Scrooge (Albert Finney)
Christmas Carol (George C Scott is the best but others are also great)
Christmas Story
One Magic Christmas
Scrooged
Elf
What I did for Love (Crusty James Gammon is great as Sadie Ryder's Winchester toting Dad who still thinks his grown up doctor daughter is still 13)
The Bishop's Wife (Loretta Young is gorgeous and Cary Grant is great)
The Most Wonder Time of the Year
The Night they Saved Christmas
Santa Jr.
Silent Night which is a Gritty WW2 movie told from a German boy's perspective and is about soldiers who even though they are sworn enemies share a Christmas together during the Battle of the Bulge.
Mr Krueger's Christmas
A Child's Christmas in Wales
The Santa Clause
Cartoons:
Charlie Brown Christmas
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
How the Grinch Stole Christmas

"It's a Wonderful Life" brings me back to earth. I reminds me of what's really important. Some years I will watch it in the summer. A definite must see in my household.

When I was younger, the movies was a holiday pastime.
Mum would pack up a whole bunch of sandwiches and goodies to take along.
