I just got my father in laws "Police Service Six .357 Magnum.

Serial # 158-783XX

this does not seem to correspond with anything that I have found...
Were there different Serial #'s for Police Issue? This was his Police issued revolver. Great Shooter by the way

I believe it still falls under the "Security Six":

158-12020 1982
159-45126 1983

I am willing to bet your fathers revolver was made in 1983.

Keith, Based on your serial numbers and dates, I'm guessing it would be about mid-year 1982, Possibly July or August. The new run for 1983 starts with 159-45126, showing a 1982 production run of approximately 133K Security Six models. I'm at work so don't have access to the data from Ruger.

Well I just bought my first wheel gun, a Security Six. This may sound stupid, but I can't find the serial number. Where did they hide it, under the grips? Thanks.

Should be on the bottom of the grip frame, pointing straight down when gun is held level.
If the gun has aftermarket full frame grips (like Pachmayer) it may be covered up. It will visible with factory stocks

just found out my P345 was made in 2007

My P94 in 40 S&W isn't listed (it was made prior to the 944). I got it before the Clinton FFL purge when I still had my FFL so it is either 1994 or 1995. The web site says send them a letter but it's not a major concern to me as it shoots where I point it and goes bang every time.

wow if my reading it right my new sp101 i put on layaway was made it 1998 hard to believe that the gun store has 10 year old stock
