My Sister sent the first two pics of the Skywalk being built over the Grand Canyon some time back. Apparently finished now and open. Supposedly exceeds the engineer's safety requirement by %400. I know some of you more adventurous souls like sheepdog might even trot out on it and do a little "two step" but for me, I think this old man would sit and watch from solid ground:D

Yep, looks a little scary to me. Wonder if they ever get someone out on it and they get weak knees and have to be rescued. I saw video of it being cleaned, glass bottom and sides. When I first heard of it there was the confusion of it being a bridge that spanned the gorge. Wondered how they were going to do that. Now it is a little more realistic when you see the finished project.

I'm the art director for a news magazine about American Indian issues, so we've been covering this for a while because it's owned by the Hualapai Indian Tribe. When I first saw the architectural renderings I thought it was cool, but I was not aware the BOTTOM was see-through! I would absolutely have to see it if I was within 100 miles of it, but I might have to crawl! This bottom picture above shows a handrail/barrier that appears way, way too low to satisfy me.

I have some photos of the construction process that I don't think I have permission to post here, but it is really, really sturdy!

Son, I ain't lost NUTTIN' out there!!!!! I'll take a risk for a reason, but I amn't crazy, no matter what Rman might tell you. I'll enjoy the breathtaking view from the big, solid, ROCK, thank you. The bottom may be see-through now, but they'll have to hose it down often if guys get out on it and look down.......

I wonder if they made the engineer go out on it before anybody else? That's probably what that big brown stain is in the middle...

I used to work in the Humana Bldg. in Louisville as a Security Officer (22 years ago) and on the 16th floor there was a walkway that jutted out from the bldg. that the sides were glass. I never could bring myself to walk out on that, let alone something like the Grand Canyon. I have been there, and it is magnificent, but dang if I want to tempt fate.

I've read the articles and seen the pictures of that too.

However interesting it may be ....... I believe in terra firma - the more the firma, the less the terror.

kansas45,

Cluck, cluck, cluck ........ [8D]

There is only two things that really will get to me. Two phobias I guess.
The first is swimming in water that I can't see the bottom of. Lake, river, pond, don't matter. If I can't see the bottom, I ain't going in.

The second is walking out over nothing. Like that glass bottomed walkway. I might be able to do it, but ..... well I'd have to be there before I'll commit to anything.

If I ever get to the grand canyon I would have to check that out but I'm not sure if I would walk out on it or not.

I am pretty sure that building isn't there yet. Slated to be a resort/casino, but revenue generated from the skywalk will help build the rest.
