I'm afraid that you're not going to be able to be fussy about the location as there are only a handful in the entire country. The two most noteworthy are in CO and in PA. Here's a link to a Google search of schools in the US. In that search there is this link to the top schools.
There are only three!
They are all 12 to 16 month programs and that really is a reasonable amount of time to learn machining, head spacing, spring winding and all the other skills to be a true gunsmith. Study at home courses and such will, at best, teach you to be an armourer which, in and of itself, isn't a bad thing. Best wishes!:)
