high angle primers

When I was in the Army every new guy was sent on some crazy goose chase. Being artillery we would usually send them to the captain to get some "high angle primers" or a "breechlock key".

I'm sure we weren't the only ones to do this. What are your favorite tricks?

While building a new chicken coop, we sent a nephew to the lumber yard for 20 4x2's to finish framing. They told him they were out of them, but they did have 2x4's and would they work. He returned and asked us if they would work. We told him we really needed 4x2's, but we could make do with 2x4's. He went back to the lumber yard and they asked him how long did we need. His reply: "Need them a long time, were building a new chicken coop!"
And no one mentioned a "Bucket of Slipstream"?

Or a bucket of powdered grease.
I think all occupations do this kinda stuff.

When I was 16 I worked in a restaurant.
We'd "Call back on peanut butter"

we didn't have peanut butter.
Being a Boatswains Mate in the Navy:
BT punch was always a classic,
Covering a bucket with a wet cloth and sending someone to the engine room with a bucket of steam.
Standing on the bridge and sending someone to get the Keys for the ship before we can leave port.
Being artillery the howitzer had a breechlock so we would send someone for a breechlock key.
Aboard our aircraft carrier, the newby was sent after a padeye wrench.
Working in a garage,we would always send the new parts runners out for a set of spark plugs for a Mercedes 300SD. All the parts houses knew about us and would keep them running door to door for half the day.

What would you have done if he came back with glow plugs. :D
Sent him back for a water pump for a Beetle. (Happened a couple of times!)

lmao, must have been a beetle
PRC E-8. For those that aren't familiar, radio NSNs start with PRC and are pronounced prick.
Another thing was to send a PFC to the mess section to find Master Sergeant Ramen.

I carried a PRC-25 and yes we called it a prick 25.
I a friend of mine that was in the Navy told a newb to go find him 10' of water line. And it was the last time he did so, as the Cpt found the guy hanging over the side of the ship scrapping it off into a bucket.

I was in the Air Force working in telephone mait, and would have newbs working details for us to go to supply for a 48 can case of dial tone.
Bucket of relative bearing grease.
