Mags?

10/22 - 5
Mini 14 - 10
P85 5
MKIII - 5

Here in Karlifornia we cannot have high capacity mags except for my P85.
It drives the local constables crazy when I shoot those 15 round mags.

They were grandfathered....

A few backward thinking cities are outlawing the state authorized mags.

Necessary? I don't know how many are necessary without knowing your exact situation. Suffice it to say that magazines are the Achilles' heel of auto loaders and they have a nasty tendency to fail when you don't have a spare handy.

I have about twenty 30 round magazines for my AR15 clone, accumulated over the years, and I've tossed out about five over the years because they weren't feeding properly. I try to have at least five magazines for my auto loading pistols, since I use them for steel challenge matches. When I carry, I bring along one or two extra magazines, so three would be the absolute minimum for my pistols.

Only you can determine how many magazines are necessary.

Some will say 10 mags min per AR. I think I have around 45 AR mags for close to a dozen ARs. So I'm lacking..

26 mags for my 2 AKs.

13 mags for the M1A.

8 or so hi caps for the 10/22s(about 10 of the 10rd oem's)

13 std 1911s(5 more for the 3.5)

5 for the G17 ..and so on.

I'd bump the handguns up to about 5 mags per, as a minimum. Mags can get lost, confiscated, fail, etc. 2 total is cutting it pretty close, to say the least.

I find that 2 or 3 mags for each pistol works fine for me.

10 30rd with 223
10 30rd with 300aac
30 10rd clips with 223

3 10rd for Barrett MRAD

5 for my 10/22

2 for my Savage 93 17hmr

12 10rd clips for Mosin-Nagant

6 15rd for Sig P226 pistol
2 18rd for Sig P226 pistol

4 for M&P9 pistol

I could use another 10ea for 223 and 300aac. I would also like 2 more for the Barrett so I can carry a full 50rds in the rifle case. But the Barrett mags ain't cheap at almost $90 a pop.

Mag count
6 25 round 6.8 spc AR mags
1 5 round 6.8 spc
4 1911 mags, although the 2 10 rnd ones are only reliable enough for range use.
2 30 round 556 Pmags
3 20 round mini 14
1 30 round mini 14
2 5 round mini 14
2 10 round walther p22

The only mags that I want to pick up more of are the Pmags and a couple more 1911 mags, otherwise I think I'm in good shape.

I have at least 3 magazine for each pistol that I carry. I have a bunch of 10/22 magazines. Only 5 of them are magazines I can count on. I have a bunch of AR magazines but most of them are garbage, some of the trash is highly touted. You buy an 8 pack of these highly touted magazines and they stuff up 3 different rifles they are junk.

I try to keep 10 mags per rifle.

7 AR15s (70 30 round Pmags, 2 20 round pmags, 2 40 round pmags, and 1 Surefire 60 round pmag)
1 9mm AR - 4 32 round mags, 2 20 round mags (Still need to pick up a few)

2 AK47s - 24 mags total

Ruger American Rimfire (5 mags)

I also have 6 mags per Semi-auto handgun.

Why? Because you cannot have too many magazines, especially when the Anti-Gun machine is constantly trying to ban them. Just my opinion.

Only . . you . . can determine what is "necessary".

I have a hand full for my 1911s because I have more than one range bag
and I dislike having to check and see how many there are in a given bag
on the way out the door.

I agree with Jim in that three for a given gun/caliber seems a good number
for me, but, after saying that, I have a half dozen 10 round for the 10/22.
I tried one 30 round for the 10/22 and found it to be obnoxious. So I just
have several ten round mags to load. :)

.

.

P.S. From what I've seen . . . those at the range with a dozen or more for
a given gun, seem to be riding the testosterone express.

S&W M&P 9MM 22 standard with extended base plates, 1, 32 round
CZ 9MM 10
Ruger Mk III 5 standard. 3 high capacity
Marlin XT-17VR 2
AR 5.56 18
1911 18ish

I guess it's 79 total

Oh Yea...how many are necessary; if it's for self defense/carry, it depends on how well you shoot and how many you have to shoot. If I went into a known rough area, I'd carry an additional double stack 9MM mag.

For my M10-762 I have 7 mags. Those are the polymer Tapco AK mags so I got them for $10 each. The problem with my love of Rugers is that proprietary Ruger mags are EXPENSIVE! I'm talking $30 or more per mag depending on caliber. A steel 10 round mag for the Ruger GSR is $75!!!! Extra mags for my P95 are $40!!! That's insane to me. A chunk of cheap steel and a piece of plastic for over ten bucks is insulting. That's literally the only thing I hate about Ruger...

For some reason my magic number has always been five (5) mags...one (1) in the gun and up to four (4) that can be carried on my person if necessary (I've never carried more than 2 back-up mags at a time.)

For most of my guns (Glocks), I also have a 10-round mag for when I go to the range.

My wife's Springfield XDm 3.8 9mm came with one (1) 19-round mag...I purchased two more (3 total) 19-rounders and that's her home-defense set-up...right behind her Remington 870 Tactical 20 GA.
