This has probably come up before, but I have to ask if anyone knows.

How Much Ammo Can You Legally Own? It probably varies state-to-state, country-to-country but I would like to know. I recently completed my inventory: 2400 9mm, 2500 380acp, 1250 7.62x39, and 1500 45acp. Then I hear about a raid on some drug dealer and the seizing of drugs, a dozen weapons, and 9000 rounds of ammo. They made it sound like the greater crime was having guns and that much ammo. This got me to thinking if I may be over some unknown limit (no, not drugs -), but guns and ammo.

Any ideas?

As much as you can buy.

There is always the possibility of a state or county having a limit, but I have not heard of it. If your really worried about it you could call your local police department and ask. You might get some weird attention if you did though. :)

No such law that I ever heard of. As long as you legally own acquired the ammo, and don't use the ammo illegally no issue. Usually when I hear about these busts the guns are illegal, therefore the amount of ammo makes it a big issue. Scare tactics - "just think what they could have done"....

Se. It even works on us. Meaning the demonetization of guns and ammo.

I don't know, but you should send me about 1,000 rounds of the 9mm to be on the safe side.

Even a bullet in the shirt pocket would be illegal if one's the subject of a raid. :)

The purchase of Ammunition by individuals that are Legally Eligible is not currently regulated in my State.

However; no one is Constitutionally Entitled to Ammunition. It's a privilege of a Democratic Society... Without Ammunition a Firearm is no more than a Paper Weight or Blunt Weapon.

Brian ... To the best of my knowledge there is no state law governing the amount of ammo that a citizen can possess in Ohio. The only state law governing ammunition in Ohio that I'm aware of is ORC-2305.401 that protects the firearms industry (including ammo manufacturers) from liability as the result of the discharge of a firearm for any subsequent death, injury or damage.

you can be assured this will be future legislation. You, the worker, will probably be "permitted" to possess up to 9 "rounds" with which to defend yourself. Anything beyond that would require a court order. Don't laugh, it's coming within 2 years. And, those of you that have been "stockpiling" or "hoarding" will be required to relinquish your "excess" ammo. God bless America.
Sorry, but, this community needs to wake up, realize the liberties and freedoms you have already lost forever, and that this "fundamental transformation of America" your president elect promised for you.

There is no legal limit, per se. However, there are local fire codes that may restrict the amounts that can be stored inside the home. Your homeowners insurance may also be a problem. Check your policy to see if they have any riders on ammo or powder. That's about it.

Here in the UK, ammo purchases are logged on your firearm certificate and are limited.

As a target shooter I am allowed to hold 1200 rounds of .22 and purchase a maximum of 1000 rounds at a time.

I believe hunters who may shoot less often may be restricted down even more and only hold something like a couple of hundred rounds of larger calibers.

Ammunition is property. We have the natural right to our property, independent of society and government.

Of course, property rights are eroded constantly, as though they were mere privileges, defined and handed down to individuals by society and government.
