I was a yard sale on Saturday and I saw two boxes of S&B 7x57 Mauser on a table. I thought maybe they were once fired brass, but no, they were both full. I held them up to the homeowner and he said, "I'll take what's on the box." Well, I got both boxes, 40 rounds of 170 grain soft point for $21.00. Not bad, not bad at all.

The boxes appear to be fairly new, maybe he had a 7mm Mauser and got rid of it.

I have two Mauser 98s in 7x57 and one Ruger M-77. It's an excellent round and I'm always at a loss to understand why fine old cartridges like the 7x57, the 257 Roberts, and the 6.5 Swede have started down the road to extinction.

As another 7X57 fan it is because they do not get all the marketing hype of todays manufacturers. IMO a lot of bogus unprovable claims about superiority of short actions versus long and modern cases compared to the older designs plays into it as well.
