Which revolver am I looking for? I'm thinking 4" barrel six shooter with a ribbed barrel. Smith, Ruger, other, not really particular, just as long as it is of good quality.

If the ribbed barrel is necessary, you'll need to fork out $$$ for a Python or a Diamondback. Taurus may still make a ribbed barrel .38. But IMHO opinion, I'd forego the rib and get one of the 2 finest .38/.357 revolver now available; the S&W 686 or the GP100.

Look at a Dan Wesson. they still offer the barrels. Interchangable barrels from 2.5 to 10 inch barrels.

Screw one off to put on another

At the last gunshow Pythons were going for over a thousand. A far cry from what they used to go for new.

That's for sure. I bought one in the '80s to carry on my security job. Don't remember what I paid but it would have had to have been reasonably priced for me to afford it. One of the best buys I ever made it would seem.
