Lost the front sight on my SR1911 today, sheared right off after about 30 rounds !
This is an early model with serial number less than 1000, I’ve had it since 2011 and have about 2400 rounds through it.
I called Ruger when I got home, they’re shipping a new front sight out tomorrow. Can’t beat customer service like that!
I knew the older SR1911’s had this problem but thought I might have gotten lucky with mine. Never had to get warranty work done before, hopefully I can swap out the sight without problems.
Does anyone know if the front sight drifts out to the left or to the right? Or does it go in/out in either direction?

Do they really put sights on that cheap ? Years ago you never heard of it, or at least not as much as they do nowadays.

Years ago we didn't have internet gun forums where everyone can post up about everything that happens. Rarely does anyone post up "I shot my gun today and everything worked fine." That's not very interesting and besides we expect that to be the case. So we usually just get the stories about what broke or failed to meet our expectations.

Time has passed so we forget about the good 'ol days when the soldered-on ERH studs would break sending the parts flying down range until Ruger changed the design. Or the early Redhawk barrels that flew off the frame until they figured out what was going on and changed the assembly process. Plenty of old Rugers with crooked sights, under/over clocked barrels, and other common issues. It goes with production manufacturing.

The broken sight problem with the earliest SR1911s was identified and corrected years ago but there will still be some with the early guns that finally see it happen. Ruger steps right up and sends you a new sight ASAP, no questions asked.

Ruger customer service is top notch. In 45 years of shooting I have never seen a front sight come ff but I have been on a range 3 times when it happened.

or that becomes the perfect time to upgrade to something better (e.g. TruGlo TFX)

No need for night sights on this gun as I don’t use it for carry or home defense.

Ruger shipped out a new sight and I installed it today without any difficulty.
