So I'm a fairly new gun owner and looking for some help. I took my P95 to the range last night so I could get to know here a little better. Going through 50 rounds and it jammed up 4 times. Looked like some issue the rounds being picked up from the clip. 2 times it was like it was trying to load two rounds a time and the other didnt look like the one round set right. Advice?

Well, since you are new....it's a magazine, not a clip. Beyond that, are you maybe limp wristing it? Not holding the pistol firmly enough can cause problems with cycling ammo. I'd give it another trip to the range and really hold it like you mean it and if problems still persist call Ruger.

Lots of good folks here can help, but I'd also start with a Google search on P95 Ruger FTF. Seems like it's a fairly common problem.

In autos I only have S&W M&PS and a Kahr PM90.

Like Soulman said, it sounds like you may be limp-wristing. Keep a firm grip when firing and firm wrist action. If you absorb too much of the recoil, it can keep the gun from firing properly. It's pretty common for new shooters to limp-wrist.

As already mentioned above, I too would suspect limp wristing. This seems to be more common with polymer framed pistols such as your P95. Another thing to consider, are the malfunctions occuring with all of your magazines or just one of them? If only one of them, the problem could be with the magazine. One last thing, are your magazines factory Ruger or are they aftermarket? In my experience, the only after market magazine that works is MecGar, as they make many companies factory magazines. I hope that you get it worked out.

Before inserting magazine make sure the rounds are tapped to the back of the the mag.

Good question here. Number 2 possible cause after LW. Remington (for example) tends to be "light" in the powder load. I picked up a 10 box "can" of the stuff "on sale" at Sheels and it can barely get the brass out of my 92FS.

Did you field strip, clean and lube the gun before taking it to the range? If the gun was dry or still had some of the crappy factory "lube" on it, it could cause the slide to slow and not complete the cycle.

As mentioned above, this, limp wristing or light ammo can all cause similar failures. All prevent the slide from fully cycling. Also, if you could give a better description of the failures (nose dive, FTF, FTE, etc..) it might help in diagnosing the proplem.

You might also want to check the feed ramp. Is it smooth or can you feel any sharp edges or burrs?

My P95 has been flawless, for me. But my wife and daughter have had FTE/FTF similar to what you are explaining.

After I worked with them on their grip, this stopped happening. So it seems that maybe it is a limp wristing issue. Another thing I found that really stopped this from happening was a Hogue slip on grip...this thing is like 10 bucks and makes it feel like a totally different (and better) firearm to me.

As far as ammo is concerned, I have never had any issues with any ammo I have put through it so before experimenting with numerous brands of ammo, work on the gripping of the gun.

I didn't think to try the other magazine but I'll go back and try them both this weekend.

To answer another question they are both factory.

It was a box of Federal Range and Target from the range.

My P95 has many thousands of rounds through it never had a problem till I bought a couple cheap magazines at a gun show. Right off the bat had a couple FTF and a couple double feeds . Went back the the factory magazines and worked fine . Check over you mags .

Might want to try disassembling it again, give it a thorough cleaning and use a dremel tool to polish the feed ramp to a mirror finish.

If you use a dremel do so very carefully. Very, very carefully. Very, very, very carefully. In other words, unless you really know what you are doing, do not use a dremel on the feed ramp.

Hey Brian,

I bought a P95 as a first pistol last February and promptly started a very similar thread after my first range trip.

Work on your grip.

I've also found clean frame rails and a clean slide help. I also dab and polish in a little bit of Tetra gun grease.

I also bought the cheapest 9mm factory reloads I could find at the time, and I think they were a bit weak for a brand new pistol. I got a few boxes of hotter ammo (Aguila 124gr; or any +p ammo) and haven't had any problems since.

Incidentally, took a friend shooting for the first time last week and after the gun got a little dirty, he started having FTF issues. Told him to tighten his wrist and grip and the problems went away.

The P95 is a workhorse, rarely has anything go wrong with it.

I,too, agree that it is most likely an issue with grip. It is so easy to let your wrist, arm, elbow and shoulder absorb some of the recoil that the firearms needs to cycle properly.

50 years ago, the phrase "limp wrist" didn't have the some of the additional meanings as today.....
