What is the largest caliber you could go on a Ruger No.1. Just curious.

Factory 458 lott ssk industries and others chamber in 700 nitro and a 950 round that they only made 2 of.

Back around 1985, I found a No. 1 Tropical in .458 Win Mag at a Ft. Worth gun show. The price was $350. I wrote a certain well know smith about re-barreling it to .600 or maybe .577 and was told while I might find someone to do this, he wouldn't and advised against it. I had no use for the .458 and certainly not the .600 or .577, so moved on to other things. Still, this question had always been in the back of my mind.

Largest bore on a factory Ruger #1 would be the .475 Linebaugh I'd say.
Sloshot I think those two 475 Linebaughs are sold, just still on his listings.

I have shot 458 lot in a 10 lb gun not fun but not shoulder disloacating either. About 3 years ago I was 56 then. I heard 2 30 year old cops whining hta they had to shoot 25 rounds of reduced recoil 23/4 inch slugs thru their shotguns. I said really it is that bad. They said yes. I purchased 75 rounds of 3 inch slug and had them watch a man their dad's age fire 75 3 inch slugs one after the other in 20 minutes or so and I said I am still alive. They said maybe they should practice more. I said indded they should. Teh next morning as I wa going into the shour my wife said what was the big black and blue mark. I said I banged it at work. The night before I took 3 large shots of burbon to ease the pain and it was 128 proof burbon not 80 proof.

He does get a bit behind sometimes.

I have one in .470 NE that weighs about 11 pounds and it isn't bad to shoot offhand.
