I'm looking for a pre warning security six. What year was the warning started on these. I did a search and the best answer I could find was "around 1978". There must be a definite year but I can't find the answer. I don't want to buy one that had the warning removed.

There are no hard and fast rules with Ruger production, it seems. 1978 seems to be the year most people use to seperate "pre warning" and "warning" Six series guns.

Ruger has a habit of using "cleanup" parts and it's totally possible that old stocks of pre-warning barrels may have been used until 1979-1980 or so in some cases.

The warning doesn't bother me a bit, even before they used the warnings, there was still the Ruger trademark info in the same spot, so it's not like the barrels were ever "clean" and totally free from stampings.

My 79 has the warning and my 77 does not. I believe ExArmy is correct in saying 1978.
