i scored a box for my blued 1973 old army, now my question is, can anyone tell me what box i need for the 1996 stainless i have? clearly i know the bbl length and adj sight options but were they hard cases like my new black hawks or still cardboard like my older wheelguns. i asked this same question in the blackpowder forum an it has more than a few views but not a single answer

It's hard to say. Plastic boxes made their appearance as early as 1995 but very limited use and only with some models. Generally phased in for all models by 2002. Being from 1996, your gun must be a fixed sight model.

I'd pose your question in the other Ruger forum, it has a lot more visitors:

Just type in ruger box on e bay and keep looking...they are often for sale...not cheap but freqently there and well described...you might get lucky.
