Recently bought used m77 mkIII in .223. Shot today and it's a good shooter but a problem developed. Initially tried to load multiple rounds. While cycling between rounds, base plate popped open and dumped rounds. So continued with just 2. After a few more rounds, problem occurred again. Started loading singles. After about 40 rounds, it was popping open after ea firing. Now it even pops open when cycling bolt. I have no instruction book so I'm wondering if there is an adjustment to tighten the base plate latch or some other feature that I'm just overlooking. Thanks for any feedback.

check the floor plate angle screw, if its to tight it can move the floor plate forward enough to make it not want to catch on the lock.

+1 that would be the first place I'd start. If not call Ruger they deal with issues all the time. It's probably an easy fix.

Welcome to both of you to the forum.
