1) Assuming you have a MKIII 22/45 insert your magazine (if you have an older 22/45 without magazine disconnect you can skip this step)
2) Pull trigger fully to rear and hold it.
3) Whack the muzzle on a padded but firm surface (carpeted floor, folded towel over hard surface, etc.) You want to bring the muzzle end straight down here, smartly. You may have to repeat this several times.
4) Remove magazine if you inserted it in step 1. If you didn't you can skip over this.

Then try to pull your mainspring latch.

What has happened is that your hammer strut is out of position and is binding everything up. By doing the above you are trying to get your hammer (and attached strut) to pivot forward and allow you to pull the mainspring.

I keep one of the "rubber speed wrenches" on hand for this sort of operation. Don't need it often, but sometimes it's the only solution.
