I don't have the xlr but I do have a marlin 444 micro groove that I really like and getting fonder of it the longer I have it. The recoil isn't bad at all with recoil pad. I also have a 45-70 in the 1886 model winchester made by browning and I don't want to put a pad on it and change the looks of it. Its beautiful but the curved steel butt plate not to pleasant on the recoil.
I saw one at the local Gander Mtn.. I thought is was very nice except it is stainless. I would want one in blue being a lever action. It was also $600.
I don't know about the XLR but I do know about the 1895 in 45-70 I have. It's a great gun, it's accurate and it's easy to shoot. If you get an XLR post up a report, I'd sure like to know more about them.
