Me too! I think the original Vaquero was perfect in .45Colt. I have one just like yours, and a shorty birdshead. They are great revolvers. I like your rifle too.
The first Ruger that we got was a Vaquero 44 magnum, blue with a 4 5/8" barrel.
It really likes the 44 special ammo or maybe that's just me that likes that ammo.
Have to get it out to get a picture of it.
By the way both of you guys have very fine looking Firearms to say the least.
While I have several Blackhawks with the New Model, original Vaquero size frame, I only had one original Vaquero, in 45Colt/ACP. I recently sold that one off in favor of a couple New Vaqueros. I have relatively small hands and for quick handling, fixed sight use the smaller frame works better. Plus otb properly indexed loading is great...saves me the time and expense of converting to halfcock notch as I have done with my Blackhawks.
I'm thinking you meant to post this in the Model 10 thread. Nice revolvers though. I still kick myself for trading off a pencil barrel almost as nice as yours back in the 1980's.
I also have 2 original Vaqueros both .357’s one Vaquero Bisley model 5.5 stainless. My most recent a 3.75 Sheriff’s Model. Also stainless. I much prefer the larger Vaquero vs New Model Vaquero.
It's kind of funny, I'm 70 years old, and after a lifetime of all kinds of guns, I seem to be regressing to my youth and preference of "cowboy guns"
I can still relate to my old Roy Rogers peacemaker even though I'm ready for a pacemaker.
I have both the large frame and medium frame Vaqueros. I think the large frame works better for .45 and .44. But the .357/.38 balances better in the medium frame.
Also, the medium frame guns seem better in some respects - chamber throat dimensions, finish, and cylinder stop for reloading.
I like them both.
