Well as stated, I am working up a development load for my mini 30 with the 123 grain nosler varmageddon polymer tip bullet, and H322 powder. I chose that because I didnt have RL7, OR H4198 around. CCI #200 primer,. So starting at bottom 25 grains which yields 1900 up to, well a compressed load. 1 grain increments. Kept them between 2.205" to 2.210" on the top end, 10 round test ammo, 5 bags, so 50 rounds. Gonna test it soon to see the results. Will update when I do.

I picked up 1K of the blems from Shooters Pro Shop a few years back. The Noslers don't have as deep a cannelure as the Hornady V Max. I seated per the Nosler on line manual. Ended up just about in the center of the cannelure. Slight taper crimp.

They are as accurate as the V Max. I was using H4198 and shot them from my Ruger American.

Keep us filled in.

Will do, planning on next Thursday weather permitting. I have ran the sst with benchmark, a1680, but never used H322 in the 7.62x39. MY 338 federal ar10 loves H322 with a 200, and 225 Hornady interlock red tip. Sub moa and hits like a pile driver. So since I have (200) 338 federal cases ready for bullets, and both bullets being out of stock no back order, or seasonal I decided to try the H322.

Still have to sight in my new henie straight 8 night sights on my glock 42, and test the 180 and 200 grain xtps with Longshot I handloaded for my 10mm.

Stay tuned., who knows my sks, and ak's may like this round too, but I'm particularly making these for my mini 30.

I shot a .64" 5 shot group @ 100 yards with my Ruger American. 25 grains of H4198 and the Hornady Z Max seated at cannelure.

The Noslers are just as accurate. I never duplicated that group but have shot several one hole 10 shot groups.

Like a fool I let the American go to a buddy.

Couple of questions.
I'm a total novice on 7.62x39 but have been doing my bet to weasel a mini 30 away from a friend.
The other day LGS had 3.10 or 3.11 bullets marked for AK use. Does the mini have that bore?
Question 2. How does Tacky get the mini in that red toolbox without a folding stock?

Yup the 7.62x39 uses the .310, .311 bullets. It can be tricky since that round doesn't really have alot of choices for bullets like other calibers do, but their are a few. It's basically a semi automatic 30/30.

I will never tell on question.#2. 🤣

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one to grab up some Z-Max bullets back in the day.

and yes, I know they are just V-Max with a green tip.
Bass Pro was clearing them out and I got the last boxes of .308 and .224 they had.

Correct on the green tip. Hornadys contribution to the Zombie Apocalypse.

I bought two boxes of the Z=Max back then. Just opened the second box. I checked Shooters Pro Shop. They have the Nosler blems in stock. Price has gone up some. I think I paid about $62 for a 250 box. They are now sold in a 100 box for $30 and change. Still not outrageous.

The bullets are lisited as blems. I've never been able to see any obvious defects as compared to the Factory ones bought direct from Nosler.

If you can't get the Hornady V-Max ......the Nosler's are the next best thing.

Another great bang for the buck is the Hornady FMJ. It looks like it would shoot like crap as compared to the poly tipped bullets. It shoots almost as well. MidSouth usually has them in stock. They will surprise you.

I think I have some Z max 223 factory ammo somewhere. Bought as stocking stuffers for the boys. Now I gotta go dig through ammo cabinets to satisfy my curiosity.
I have some Z-Max ammo in .223 & 12ga.
It's probably considered a collectible now...

Not yet, unfortunately, weather and days off from the FD have not been working with me. I'm hoping to soon get down to business. Maybe next week I can get started. I am going to run to the range today for a quick test of another rifle, but no time to be methodical testing the mini 30 loads. I will keep you guys posted.

I don’t know if you have any, but I would be interested in seeing what commercial 7.62x39 would do against your HLs.
I have a couple hundred rounds of brass case white box winchester 123. It was ok, but I'm trying to improve.

But I'm gonna try it. will post results.

You mean you have ammo left!?!?! Lolol!!!!!
I was shooting steel case today in the AK. I dont mind that as much since it's cheap, runs in the commie guns, and no reloading. Now my mini 30 gets prime ammo only. 😉

I did pick these up at the local gunshop. It was an expensive trip in there. So I have 3 lbs of h110 now, 8lbs of benchmark, and the RL7 is just for the mini 30 load development.

I also put a new toy on backorder. You guys are gonna love it. No telling when it will be instock or ship to my gunshop.
