Just got home from the gun show with a new toy. Pick up a slightly used blued .44 mag with ported barrel and a vent rib. My question, is there any special way to clean the ports or is it not necessary?

I was able to fire of a few rounds when I got home and was pleasantly surprised. Very manageable recoil, and seemed to be very accurate. If any one has any thoughts or experience with one of these all input is welcome. Can I get aftermarket sights? CanI get a mount to put a scope on it?

Going to work up some loads for it so I can break it in right tomorrow at the range.

I have always let the ported area of my guns soak in hoppes number9 over night and used an aggressive brush ie a 45 caliber one in a 41 mag etc. Caution do not let nickel guns soak so long.

My Taurus 44 is stainless, so I can just use a 50/50 mix of peroxide/vinegar.
Can't do that with the blued guns. It'll remove bluing.
You can use carburetor cleaner, Kroil, regular bore solvent.
