Spent my lunch hour today wandering around the fantastic museum at NRA headquarters. This, if you've never seen it, is of course a world class collection, but the museum itself is beautifully done. Really impressive. Any of you out-of-towners coming to the DC area and want to visit this museum on a weekday, let me know and I'll buy lunch.

My wife and I plan to go either this year or next. We have seen the Buffalo Bill museum in Cody, WY and the Fraiser Historical Arms museum in Louisville, KY. But, the NRA museum is like Mecca for gun owners.
Please try and remember to let me know when you're in the area. Even if we can't hook up for lunch or a drink, I can let you know some other ideas of things to do in the area. The new Air and Space museum at Dulles, VA is very nearby. Those two are my favorite museums, actually.
Yeah, it's a really nice range. It's where I go most of the time because it's right around the corner from my office. As an NRA member it's $12/hour.
We have another one nearby, I've never been but my policeman neighbor said the NRA range is ten times better. The targets are on electronically controlled tracks where you just punch in how many feet you want. maybe all ranges are like this, I haven't been to that many, just this one and an outdoor staple-it-yourself style range.

I thought you had mentioned a NRA range in another post, so I just assumed you were out in AZ, but then in this thread you mentioned DC so I had to find out. Washington, DC is like a weekend day trip and if I thought I could go shooting there also, it would suddenly be on my list of summer weekend wonderings. Thanks for the response,

It's at NRA headquarters in Fairfax, VA, a western suburb of DC about 30 or 40 minutes outside of town. The first time you go you have to complete a basic written safety quiz to get your range card, which is free, and then if you're an NRA member you get a discount. But that'd be a good day, drive down, do some shooting, have a nice lunch nearby (tons of options), go back and spend the afternoon at the museum before you head back.

its DC, the whole district is one big shooting range.
