O how I hate Weaver rings !!!!

I guess not ALL Weaver rings. Just the old school ones that have the hook-on band held down by two screws.
On the bright side they work eternally after being set up but,,,,,,,,, set up is where the angst begins.
Strictly, by design almost impossible to clock the crosshairs vertically without setting then resetting a gazillion times. As you tighten it rotates the scope, by design. Strictly an endless trial and error deal. If you have used these rings, you know what I'm talkin about.
What got me stirred up was mounting ONE scope on ONE lever action kindled a rechecking of all my lever actions (hey, I was in the lever action safe, so I had to fondle) and it seemed ALL of them were crooked. Am I holding the rifle different than I used to or do they migrate around just for fun.
That started a binge of rotating scopes around that lasted the rest of the day! Still not sure I will not be offended by them next time I look thru them either.

Problem is I got a ton of them. I should hook them all into a big ole chain and throw them as far as possible but,,,,,,,, They always boil down to being the lowest mounting ring I have in my stash.
So I keep using the stupid things ,,,,,,,,, and hating them.

I agree 100%. I probably quit using them about 35 years ago.

I still have a few floating around, not by choice I promise you!
Just invest in a second allen wrench of the appropriate size. Turn both wrenches at the same rate once you have the scope vertical. Wallah! The rings tighten down evenly without causing the scope to rotate.

Seems obvious, but I used to struggle too.

I hate em too.
Same here .... the 2 screw hook band Weaver rings suck! I do like Weaver's quad rings. Not only do they hold the scope nice and tight, they don't rotate the scope when you tighten the screws. They are also modest priced. WEAVER QUAD LOCK RINGS | Brownells

You are trying to be helpful but you are misunderstanding the rings - only screws on one side; you can't tighten each side equally & at the same time, hence the unavoidable rotation. See pic to help visualize...

I love the old Weaver rings, got at least a couple dozen sets in use and am always on the lookout for more. I much prefer steel rings and don't mind having to fool with the vertical adjustment.
I have a pair of those old rings that I got in the '80s and don't use anymore

But I love the Weaver Grand Slam rings, they're steel and usually less than $30, even at Walmart.

I hate rings with the big bolt or screw on the side, the GS rings use a small screw that is flush mounted.
Pre set for rotation is the way. It is not that hard. The ring has its shortcomings. I would use something else if there are options. Sometimes there aren't. I have a rifle with side mount. It is the only way that I know of to mount a scope.

My sanity is suddenly restored, while i eventually got them figured out and my scopes with them are level it took DAYS of frustration getting my gfs 3030 right. Whats worse is i ordered a pair of see through 4 ring mounts for her rifle, and then they never arrived, so i gave up and shes happy with where the scope is for now.

OOOH - Those are some ugly rings. It looks like Bubba screwed a cable clamp onto a scope base. Pretty dumb design.

I concur, haha. About 15 years ago, I stopped using them.
Say what you will. Love em or hate they have stood the test of time. Still on the market after around 70 years.
Probably have a bunch of them pulled from customers rifles and some revolvers. Some folks love em, I think it’s the price that attracts them. Not one of my choices for scope mounts or rings nothing precision about them.
This is the discussion weaver rings, my buddy picked up in trade a Ruger 10/22 rifle with a weaver 3-9x40, weaver mounts and rings. He’s bringing in to the shop tomorrow for upgrades
