Why won't you shoot it? At least some. It will take a recent 12ga won't it? I mean of course it is yours to make the call, but I would have to shoot it some.
It probably won't 'take' and should not be used with current 12 ga ammo. It likely has 2 1/2" chambers rather than the current 2 3/4" and the damascus barrels were intended for black powder pressures. There may be age appropriate shells available but they will not be everywhere. The chamber length is a big thing, strange as it may seem, shotshell length is measured on the fired length. Conceivably a 2 3/4" shell could fit in a 2 1/2" chamber but when fired there would be no room for the crimp to unfold without partially obstructing the bore, that could have catastrophic results.
I would want to find the appropriate shells and try it, at least once but it has earned it's retirement.

I won’t be firing this gun. That’s not why I bought it. I’m going to carefully clean it up, put something on it like the gun wax you guys talk about, and hang it on the wall with some duck mounts.

I can’t stand the wait to get it. The auction was getting bumped 3 minutes at a time for last second bids and ran 15 minutes over. I had to go and get a nice Bourbon. The sale was in my wife’s hands, she had no idea what it was she was buying, and she wasn’t going to loose. It was fun to watch her in action.

The auction house sends it to the FFL next. Should have it early next week. The FFL said I can pick it up with my permit. It should be a C&R gun but they said all the auction guns go through an FFL.

My wife has never done an auction but as much as she likes to spend money, I think she would be a natural. So, what did Mrs Corndog end up paying for the L.C. Smith?
