The right side decocker lever is slightly 'loose' and will rattle on most all P series pistols I have held or shot. I own 4 Ruger P series decockers (2 - P95's, 1 - P97 and 1 - P345) and only one of my two P95's doesn't have that little rattle. I know it doesn't create a problem but it is a little thing that drives me nuts. I've done lots of work on my different P series pistols but I have never removed the decocker levers and try to figure out what causes it and can it be 'cured'.

I would really appreciate it if one of our resident 'smithies' (Iowegan or RNettles are you reading this) would post how to remove the decock levers and relay if you know how to tighten up that darn right side.

Are you talking about up and down sloppy, or in and out sloppy?

On my P95DPR, the right side decocker is held in place by the end of the extractor. If you remove the extractor from the slide, the right decocker lever will fall out of the slide. In Figure 1.1 you can see the extractor in the slide channel.

In Figure 1.2, number 1 is pointing to the slot in the decocker lever where the extractor sits, retaining the decocker lever in the slide...

Number 2 is the extractor. If you'll notice the slot in the decocker is about 1 1/2 times the width of the extractor. This is what is causing the in and out slop. The only way to correct it woud be to narrow the slot or increase the width of the mating end of the extractor. And as a note, bending the extractor would not resolve this issue. In fact, it would more tha likely cause FTE(Fail To Extract/Eject).

Wow, that was a fast response!

Looking at my P95 and P97 externally it sure appears that they share an identical decocker design. Based on what you pointed out in the photos (which are excellent) it looks like there isn't an easy fix. Since my new P97 is running so perfect right out of the box I sort of hate to remove the extractor and start messing with it and create a possible hickup. Oh well, I guess 'it is what it is'.

Cavediver, I have 2 97's and they both have it. One I carry and have shot a lot, and the looseness hasn't changed. At first I was worried that if would fly off, but after I found out how it was connected I stopped worrying. Just shoot and enjoy it.
