Ruger didn't intend to replace the Six-Series with a GP100. In fact both platforms were in production at the same time for a couple years. Finally, sales for the Six-Series dropped where they were no longer profitable and got discontinued. Another small tidbit .... A Security-Six with an equal length barrel and the same type lug will weigh a few ounces more than a GP100. Why? Because Six-Series revolvers have a full sized steel grip frame whereas a GP100 has a much lighter grip lug. GP100s have a more massive cylinder and thicker top strap so what it really amounted to .... the weight was redistributed to improve overall strength.

I've owned my GP-100 for about 30 years and handload for it. As far as the 125 grain JHP rounds and its velocity be aware that over time the 125grn loads will cause wear on the forcing cone. I switched over to 158grn Hornady XTP's a few years ago.

Very nice GP100. Some things you might consider besides a nice holster is changing out the front sights with a HiViz fiber optic sight. For me, I also changed out the rear sight as well with a HiViz sight. I don't know if I like it yet. I've been thinking about changing the Hogue grip to the one recommended to you by someone else already. Anyways, good luck with your new purchase.
