Ok, guys, is there a way to mount a red dot scope in the regular Ruger rings that come with the ranch rifle? All the red dots are too big, aint they? So, do you have to buy a Weaver type adapter to fit in the Ruger bases, and then mount the red dot? Or buy some sort of replacement for the handguard? Which way do you think is best, and why?

the millet red dot scopes are offered with a one inch tube and with a screw on shade type extension. with a 3 minute dot should be a good one as it won't cover up too much of the target. The millet was what i used on t/c and held up very well with .44 mag. good battery life and brightness of dot good enough to see on a sunny day or tone her down for night firing. One word of caution--do not over-tighten rings directly over the internal lens system--use the shade extension.

I knew of one other t/c shooter that used the 1" adco sight. Don't know much about that one but it seemed to work ok for him with .357 barrel.

Thanks for those links! Now, how fast can you sight with the 1 inch tube compared to the bigger tubes? I am kind of wanting a CQB there with my Mini, and fast target acquisition.

They still offer a good field of view since there is no magnification and unlimited eye relief. I mainly used it for nra hunter/pistol type matches so speed was not an issue. If you want to go to what i think is the best "dot" in the game,(without getting military) then it is the eotech or the civilian version the bushnell holosight. These can be adapted to the ruger mini-14 bases by use of an adapter from brownells. These adapters work well and i knew of one feller that liked the red dot so much for his wife, he took one (bushnell holo)and put it on a ruger 77 ultra-lite in 257 roberts for his wife. These adapters for ruger base system are like these but i think there are a few others out there:

the eotech is here a brownells but can be found cheaper if you shop---it is for serious social occasions:

The bushnell is here:

I used the bushnell on an A3 bushmaster ar-15 since i could not afford the eotech. It worked very well as i was able to co-witness my iron sights thru the bushnell--don't know if you could do that on the mini...........probably would need to go with a quick release system of some sort instead. The eotech does offer a quick release model.

Thanks much Deputy for all your help and the links. I can get the Weaver base adapter from Cheaper than Dirt. I am new to these red dot scopes, never owned one, but am seriously considering one for my Mini. Thanks again for your help. Tim
