At a show this past weekend another dealer sold a Ruger Mark pistol to me that is in need of a lot of refinishing. It was scarred badly on the outside by rust or something to the point that at about 10 feet away it looks like it is engraved. I know that I'll do a blueing job on it I just don't want to ruin any of the lettering or give them that rounded look that most reblued weapons have. Any ideals on how to keep the letters sharp?

First of all, just out of curiousity I would see what Ruger would charge? I have heard stories that they have done an awsome job for a fair price, but dont know this first hand. I would use some steel wool to remove the rust and see how bad its pitted then some fine grit sand paper and some scotch brite pads.

All rust is gone (guess I should of said that). It's just badly scarred. I never even thought of sending it back to Ruger. Thank for the ideal. It is a Standard model (A-100).
