I am changing the gas port in my Ruger mini 14. I removed the upper section of the gas block, but I cannot remove the lower section that has the gas port in it. It rattles and shakes but won't come off. Can any one help me?

I had the same issue the first time I took mine apart. A gentle wack with a dead blow hammer loosened it up nicely. I found a huge amount of carbon in there that kept things tight.

As mentioned above it is more than likely glued by a carbon build up. If you have some Kroil I'd give it a good spray and let it soak overnight. Carb cleaner will work also but evaporate quickly. I'd try the Kroil first let it soak and then give it a tap with a rubber mallet. Should break free.

Thanks for you replies. I found out I needed to remove the stock to remove the gas block.
Dummies seem to survive if they go slow and ask for help.
Thanks Again

Hey! First of all, welcome aboard from Central Virginia!

Inexperience does not equate to being a dummy. We all have to start somewhere. Glad you figured it out.

Now, if you try and do it again with the stock still on...
