I have a stainless #1 in 300 Win Mag. Very accurate shooter with 190 Gr or heavier bullets. I am working on a new load; IMR 7828SS, Hornady 208Gr ELD Match.

Is this a good way to go? Any suggestions?

Are you shooting target or are you trying to build an accurate hunting load?

Both. Trying to standardize one load that works for all. Mostly target though :)
I spoke with a long range competition shooter who happens to own a gun store to help me build an effective long range hunting load for my .300 mag A-bolt.
He told me that they dropped an elk at 960 yards using H-1000 and Berger 210 VLD hunting.
I did just that and dropped one at 390 yards.
I did shoot a gong out to 800 yards as well.
For target shooting you might want to use the 210 gr Long Range BT Target or VLD target.

Tag over to some of the long-range sites and you'll find Bergers are the consensus for long range. Once the highly touted premium bullets drop below supersonic they just bore a hole, whereas Bergers still expand. They are fine for target as well.
